Crush some heads, dropkick zombies and gain more health in Dying Light! You can’t open locked chests and some doors without lockpicks. Firecrackers provide a brief distraction for the undead, giving you a chance to take care of business on the ground. Molotov cocktails incinerate zombies and ignite pools of oil. ‘Dying Light’ Pre-Order Bonus Includes ‘Be the Zombie’ PvP Mode. Although we didn’t make a proper Best of E3 2013 list, one of the titles that caught our eye amongst the deluge of reboots, remakes, sequels, and prequels was Dying Light. Yes, the game bares a striking resemblance to developer Techland ‘s other prized IP, Dead Island.

Hey fellow zombie hunters, DoctorPurrington (PS4) here!I've seen quite a few posts lately detailing players' frustrations with the Be the Zombie mode. I've responded to a few people and have gotten positive notes from my tips, and I'd love to share them with the Subreddit as a whole.I've completed over 100 Zombie matches at this point, and through various playstyles, tests, and numbers of Humans to fight, as well as conversations with skilled Night Hunter enthusiasts, I've come up with a lengthy series of strategies that will help you kill those filthy, filthy human scumbags.Did I mention they're filthy? Let's begin with.ConnectionNow, I know what you're thinking: 'How can I even enjoy the game when the Humans leave every time I try to join!' Don't fret - 90% of the time, you're not facing a frightened human worm baby. The game simply gives priority to whoever connects first.

Contrary to popular believe, it's rarely because the humans pulled the plug or canceled the match. The game still tries to connect you, but cancels it out once it realizes another Night Hunter has already begun. If you look in the left-hand corner of your screen during the Night Hunter cinematic, you'll see 1-2 other players connect and immediately disconnect. That's exactly what happens to you when you get booted - you've already begun, so the other Night Hunters are booted. The only time you are legitimately being booted by a cowardly player is when you see the 'Aborted' message. This means the player simply disconnected before the end of the cinematic.Try not to get too mad at players who quickly leave once the match has started, or leave after a few deaths. They've most likely overestimated what they need to do to fight the Night Hunter and don't want to be slaughtered. They also could have left the mode on by mistake and are rectifying the situation.Regardless, easy win!

Revel in that. I know I do.Combat'The humans outnumber the Zombie!' And 'The Zombie is too weak!' Are issues that come up often on the Subreddit. Let me just start off by saying - if course they do! They NEED to outnumber you, because you are a superior being; the true evolution of mankind.

Dying light be the zombie ranks

It takes four of those fuckers to bring you down, and it's high time you realized how zomb-liciously majestic you are.Remember that, despite the fact that their are more humans, 1 Vs. 4 matches can go considerably quicker than 1 Vs.

1, simply because of the availability of kills. When you play 1 Vs. 1, you have to kill a single person 10 times in a row. However, in 1 Vs. 4, you have four humans to kill. A successful team-kill puts you almost halfway to victory.Another factor that goes in your favor is the number of 'Nest' zombies per nests. More Nests require more humans in one place with a goal other than you to destroy.

Once you acquire charge Spits, it's easier to snipe players while they're attacking Nests. The humans may outnumber you, but that's why Hoard Spit is so integral. In the right areas, you can easily summon 6-7 zombies, 1-2 of which are Boomers that insta-kill if the Humans don't have a ranged weapon.

I put up a video the other day to show how useful it is to summon a Hoard and just distract the humans with your movements. UV Block, especially when it's extended, is a big part of this as well:.When humans know they can see you, they get bold. They attack you, rather than you sneaking up on them, so they can have a clear run to the Nests. This was daunting for me at first, because I was used to being the Hunter, but eventually, you begin to realize that you and the Humans simply have the same advantage. You know where each other are. Never assume you're 'sneaking up' on someone. Always make sure you have a way to push a confrontation in your favor. The Night Hunter mode sort of turns into professional chess once you get into a game with skilled players.

It's not a matter of not being seen - it's forcing your opponents into situations where there's simply nothing they can do. I bolded this because it sounds cool, but it's also true. Whether or not they can see you coming shouldn't matter.Use everything at your disposal. And I mean everything. The Night Hunter has so many tricks at his disposal, but I see videos all too often of people just spamming their Pounce, hoping the Humans are out of UV.I can't stress this enough, Hoard Spit is your best friend. Tackling Humans is a great way to distance an otherwise lethal engagement, but what do you follow up with? If you said 'UV Spit,' and you're not playing 1 Vs.

1, you'd be wrong.Regardless of how far you knock them vertically, the straight, uninterrupted charge is easily followed up with a Hoard Spit, which can be followed up with another UV Block and Tackle to keep the Human disoriented. It's tempting to tackle + UV Spit, but in games with more Humans, there will usually be others coming to their friend's aid. If it's 1 Vs. 1, this is a good strategy, but you want to use Hoard Spit first as much as possible. It forces players to climb, and you can't be UV'd if you Pounce a climbing player from behind. The human's 'Dead Zone' for vision is limited. You can pounce directly above someone who is running away from zombies in most cases, because they often can't turn their UV's up fast enough to get you. Even if they do UV you, your Pounce hit them and stops them from moving long enough for the zombies they're evading to attack.

At the moment, you can UV Block and immediately dash behind them. This is disorienting for Humans, since they can't UV you, but they can't fight you and the zombies at the same time.Melee'The melee is weak!' I hear quite often.

You're damn right it is! How overpowered would it be if you could OHKO with the Pounce AND consistently Melee Humans to death? Humans wouldn't stand a chance. That doesn't mean your melee abilities are useless.Just like any other PVP game, you can't just stand still when using the melee.

Hit and run, or spin around them. Hit, then jump, then hit again. I've killed plenty of people just by tossing on a UV Block and going in swinging. Jumping helps because you can quite literally jump over a horizontal swing. If your Hoard is active and you're being UV'd by a player, guess what they're not paying attention to?

That's right - the zombies shambling up behind them. This is the perfect opportunity to rush in and start swinging. The Zombie's melee IS weak, but not when there's two other zombies attacking at the same time. You can deal melee damage while a player is being 'grappled' as well, so keep that in mind.Ground Pound does take a short time to activate, but it's difficult to interrupt once it's happening. You just need to use it when you know a human is approaching from an angle where he/she can't walk up to you from a far distance.

Once you gain the Spit Smash ability, use that 100% of the time. If you're going to die anyway, might as well infect everyone around you with the Hoard, or UV them to give yourself ample time to recuperate.Don't let UV'd players run back to their friends - pressure them with a single melee + tendril away. Hit them with Hoard Spit while they're fleeing so they lead the zombies back to their friends. Skilled humans are aggressive, but from my experience they get just as disoriented as you do when the Night Hunter runs at them with a UV Block. They're going to get Tackled - they don't know if there are Spikes or a cliff behind them or not.Your Ground Pound and Tackle can do varying amounts of damage depending on how far the Human is knocked back and what the Human hits. Generally, you will do 1/5 to 1/3 of a Human's Health.

Knocking Humans into Spikes is an automatic kill for the Night Hunter. When playing in 1 Vs. 2+, deaths aside from Pounce and Spikes will usually result in a Human falling to the ground, enabling him/her to be revived.

But you don't need to wait for them to die! Swipe at the Human a few times, and they'll be killed manually.Homies, Driftwood, and Flammers, Oh my!.Homies: An affectionate monicker I've placed upon an ever-rued type of Human: The Safe House Camper. Did you know you can Pounce, uninterrupted, in a Safe House's UV lights? The player can still UV you, but if you're looking to torment the Human playfully teabagging the corner of the Fisherman Village's fence, a quick UV Spit will generally tell you if they realize they're safe or not. If they don't, they won't even move, and that's a free Pounce for you. You WILL die by the time the Pounce is over, but reaching 0 health does not interrupt your attack. You can also Leapfrog to other Humans, even at 0 health, and continue the assault.Safe Houses also have a timer (I believe it's 30 seconds) for how long a player can camp there before the match ends.

If you don't feel like risking your scabby neck, you can always wait them out.Keep in mind - your Night Hunter can open doors with X. It doesn't always tell you he can, but it's quite fun when people try to camp in the Voltage Safe House. Open the door, UV Spit, close the door.

Then a free Pounce for you.Driftwood: Ever see these guys? Floating just off shore, wallowing in a pond, mucking it up under the East Bridge?

I wish I had an answer for them, but I don't. The fact is, it's nigh impossible to Pounce players while they're in the water.

However, props to and for noting that it's possible to jump up in the water and time a quick melee to wear these campy Humans down. Keep the terrain in mind, as some parts of the water will inadvertently make Humans stand up. In those few millisecond, you can Pounce them, even if they're technically underwater.Flammers: Flare Spammers, the bane of the Night Hunter's existence. Unfortunately, because of dupers, flares are a dime a dozen, and you'll often see players, especially in 1 Vs. 1, dropping Flares like they're hotcakes all the way to your Nests. There's a few ways to take theses guys out.First off, did you know a Flare won't just magically stop you immediately?

If you see a player lighting up a rod, it's your time to Pounce. I've gotten a few (confusing) kills surrounded by the UV Light of a Flare because it hadn't hit the ground before I Pounced the Human conjuring it out of his Harry-Potter-Everything-Fits-In-Here-Maybe-Doctor-Who-Reference-Too bag.Tackle. Tackle all day long. UV Light does not interrupt your Tackle, and you can, in fact, chain tackles continuously in 1 Vs. 1 (and other modes of course, it's just harder) if you time it right. This is an effective way of separating your prey from the night lights he needs to find his way to the Nests.

Dying Light Be The Zombie Ranks

Continually tackling, following up with a Hoard pit (1 Vs. 2+), or following up with a UV Spit (1 Vs. 1) is an efficient way of dealing with Hansel and Gretel tossing glowing breadcrumbs around town.If you're bold and have some practice, you can Tackle + Melee, or just go in for the kill with Melees while they're trying to toss more UV Lights. Some people are dedicated, and others simply don't expect a full-on confrontation. Some dicks just read on the Internet that it was a cool way to win and don't have the weaponry or skills necessary to fight you while they're still trying to get tickets to UV Flare-a-palooza.EscapeNever be ashamed to run, especially if you have the Hoard on your side. If you're in 1 Vs.

2+, and you can only Pounce a single person successfully, do it. Don't hesitate. When their friends start UV-ing you in anticipation of you jumping off their friend's dead body, immediately jump and fire a Hoard Spit below you.

This doesn't always protect you, but the following things happen.A. Die anyway, but now there's 2-3 people infected with the Hoard Summoning Spit. Your Spit regenerates when you revive, so you didn't waste anything.B. They avoid you to avoid the spit, and you can UV Block and fly away, or keep spitting if you don't have any Blocks at the moment.C.

The perfect moment, when you spit, then UV Block and fly behind them, allowing them to get hit with the Spit and allowing you to get a safe distance away.Never just hop around blindly when your shield is gone. Unless you've got 0 shields, use a spit. Don't bother with UV Spit while you're dying most of the time, as it won't last until you respawn. The Hoard, however, can net you free kills. If nothing else, charge up your Ground Pound and use that time to escape to higher ground. When you get hit with UV rays, don't be afraid to use UV Block and look around for a second. See where they're attacking from.

Decide whether or not you can attack (Tackle, Spit, etc.), or if it's best to just Locomotion the hell out of there. Your UV Block is long once its upgraded, so use that to your advantage when scouting/sniping.Just because you've used your Spit doesn't mean you have to attack.

A Hoard Spit is debilitating in that it gives the people you're facing something else to deal with. You can use this time to UV Block and jet, hiding behind something solid until your shields are back up, or you can use your UV Block initially as a means of getting off a potential spit, then jet while it's still active.BuffsThe following are two potential 'buffs' for the Night Hunter I think would help ease the strain. Honestly, #1 is all I really care about.Drown. An ability that would let you drag players under the water and suffocate them to death. Drown would only be useable while you are in water, preventing Humans from lollygagging in the surf while you waste precious time. It would also prevent you from being able to simply 'snipe' players actively using water to escape, rather than simply trolling, since you would need to be within close proximity.UV Flares act as their description says: portable Safe Houses. Rather than draining your shield, UV Flares drain your health very quickly, similar to the Light of actual Safe Houses.

This prevent players from standing in them to 100% avoid Pounces, but also punishes Night Hunter who Pounce a Human bathed in a fresh, long-lasting UV cloud. Much like with Safe Houses, you can get the kill, but you will die afterward unless you chain out of the light with Leapfrog, or get lucky enough that the Flare ends before you die. That's all I've got in the tank, but I really hope you fellow Night Hunters can use these tactics to your advantage and really stick it to those disgusting Humans.

Everyone else turned into zombies. Why can't they get with the program? Please feel free to discuss, ask questions, or point out any flaws. I hope this was helpful, and enjoy the video! As always, entertaining you is my hippo catic oath.

I'll add a bunch of tips too!In general you want to hit and run. Long fights are not in your favour. You need to disorient and separate humans. Change your position often. Fly over their heads. Drop below them and run through buildings.

They only have to lose track of you briefly for you to get a pounce in. Watch the head of the Their skeletons when you howl as it will show you where they are looking so you can tell when they lost track of you.Don't charge straight in and try to pounce over and over again with good players. It won't work. You'll have to earn pounces by attacking in different ways.Use cover to avoid uv light. Often it's not necessary to go straight at them when they have a clear line of sight of you.Try attacking from below as well as above.

Wait until they are distracted climbing or fighting AI zombies or attacking nests.Groundpound disables flares as does Uv disable spits. The uv spit can be timed to explode and disable a flare just as you want to attack. You can stick spits directly to a player's body. Useful when they are not moving around much and you can line up your shot. If the spit sticks they have no way to avoid.Tackle is really strong. You can charge people off of roof tops for big damage or into spikes to kill them. You can also use it to push humans out of flared areas. Be careful abusing it though as tackles can be evaded if the humans jump.If they start jumping them try changing your timing or suddenly switching to ground pounds. If the humans get used to looking up to see you pouncing in try pouncing from below.

This obviously doesn't work in open fields but works well when players are on rooftops. Just don't give them much time to figure out you are below them. If you are slow they will realize.Humans can drop attack you and kill you if they get above you though so be careful of that.Spikes are guaranteed kills so if they are near some try groundpound or tackles. Uv light won't matter in these cases.Ground pound is near impossible to evade in crowded areas like inside buildings or near walls.

Use that to your advantage! If humans are camping in a flare try throwing a spit at the flare as you approach. They will be forced to move or get hit by flare.

Either way it should set up an opportunity for an attack.Pounces have to be earned against experienced players. You'll always get interrupted if you just fly in and pounce and then you will likely die.Flares are not instantly effective. You can pounce humans as they are trying to throw them. It's hard to see but there's a purple bar under the human's health bar that represents their uv flashlight levels. When it's greyed out or empty then they are out of uv light!Regular guns don't hurt that much. Shotguns do though so be careful of those at close range. If humans get hit by control the horde and are trying to climb to higher ground. Ground pound or tackle them off the roof they are trying to get on.

They will often land right into the loving arms of your exploding horde. You can kill incapacitated humans by swiping them with melee attacks repeatedly. Do this before other humans arrive to revive their friend.Don't be afraid to use uv block when you are drained.

It will allow you to escape. On the flip side you can use it get in close for a ground/spit/tackle without taking any light damage. That may be enough to set up a pounce.Your pounce can still be interrupted with uv light when you have uv block on.Some advanced combos:Spit on the ground near them as come in for pounces or tackles. The spit will often hit them even when they interrupt you or jump your tackle.Groundpound/Tackle into spit. If you successfully hit a tackle or groundpound you can immediately spit and often stick them with a spit at which point you will be at advantage.UV spit smash into pounce. You can spend 2 spits to add uv disable effect to your groundpound. If it hits you get to pounce immediately after and they won't be able to interrupt you.

If you want to be extra safe you can uv block before all that to guarantee you have enough energy to pounce. It's a lot resources but it's a pretty much guaranteed kill when it works.Uv spit into leapfrog pounces. If you manage to hit multiple players with uv blocking spits then you can chain pounce them with the leapfrog skill. This often happens when people are staying near flares. If humans are in a flare try activating uv block - groundpound the flare (which disables it) - pounce.

They won't have time to throw another flare as this combo is really quick!. I would add some of them to the OP, but Reddit has a 15,000-character limit, so I'll just upvote your comment.I especially agree with these two:Try attacking from below as well as above. Wait until they are distracted climbing or fighting AI zombies or attacking nests.A lot of people think humans have 360 vision, which isn't true. You'd be surprised how many times you can trick a skilled player (sometimes it's the only way to kill them) by pretending to Tackle, then just jumping over their heads where they can't UV you.The Humans turn to face you automatically when you Pounce them, but that's just the animation. They're still facing the other way.

You can actually see their UV lights turning sometimes, but it's often just not quite fast enough. If humans are in a flare try activating uv block - groundpound the flare (which disables it) - pounce. They won't have time to throw another flare as this combo is really quick!I honestly did not know Ground Pound disabled flares. I wish GP was faster - it seems relatively slow for my guy. I've had a little more experience with it since I made this comment - it's not quite as slow as I thought. I used to wait for the sounds, but now I know I can make the move go off the moment the Night Hunter's arms start changing animation after the first 'swipe' that pressing R2 activates. Now aerial Ground Pounds are something I still need to get used to using effectively, but it's damn fun when they go off on someone below you clicking their UV on and off.I'll have to practice that Charge Buffer, sounds like it could be useful. I just invaded someone who was doing everything in the 'Oh my!' First he was being a Homie, then when he left and I fucked him up, he became driftwood.

I was more patient, and killed him three times while trying to do that, then he started flarespamming and using throwing weapons. Both of which were obviously duped.Your tips helped me deal with the scumbag. Thanks. While invading I thought 'He couldn't possibly be reading this thread, right?

Or maybe another thread somewhere of scum tactics.' Haha, it wasn't A guy with a bunch of 'I's in his name, was it?

I just had a good 45-minute match with a group of people who switched between the underwater cave, a safe house with a door, the Tower, and the Fisherman's village (Slums).Glad to say I won, but only because they quit after the 6th kill.Practice really does make perfect. You learn little bits of strategy you can use in those specific places. For example, in the underwater cave (by the barricade), I got a free kill right off the bat. While swimming near the open Air Drop case, it made his character stand up for a moment, letting me Pounce him underwater.

A lucky little mishap to help me split him up from his friend.I was able to get another kill just by leading them to the same spot. Skilled campers, but thankfully not skilled enough. Humans can use dodge to escape your tackle, so it's not always the best idea to charge them full-frontal.In my experience, it's still the best way to knock a person out of Flare distance in combination with a UV Block, but it's always good to be weary of using the same tactic over and over.A good strategy is to Tackle when you can.

    Zombie

If the Human starts getting the hang of it and dodges, act like you're going to Tackle again, then just hop above them and spit at the ground. It's fun, confusing, and debilitating if they get hit by it, especially if it's a UV Disable. It also forces them to dodge again if they want to avoid the Spit, giving you ample time to Pounce or Locomotion away. Glad to help! The experience I've had with guns has not been overly detrimental. Guns don't seem to do nearly as much damage as they say they do, and the Night Hunter can take quite a few bullets from the long-range weaponry.Shotguns are a slightly different story, but their range evens out their power. I've been one-shotted from a 'reasonable' distance before, but it's often difficult to determine what the cause of death is when you're the Night Hunter beyond the small note in the lower-left corner of the screen. While I haven't experienced a team of, say, all shotguns or all assault rifles, I can say that 'keep moving' is your best advice, along with 'be aggressive.' You will be constantly interrupting and distracting the Humans with Pounces and Tackles, and as far as I know, hip-firing during an attack is impossible.

The Humans I've faced with guns don't seem to be able to efficiently switch between ADS and escape an aggressive strategy at the same time.Hoard Spit is still useful here, because a player ADS is not going to be able to focus on multiple zombies and you. However, it's more difficult in the sense that you need to keep using Locomotion to keep out of the ADS speed of most Humans.Since it's night, using guns attract zombies on their own, so they're a danger to use too much for Humans regardless, especially if you keep moving and make them waste bullets.I don't have too much experience with a designated 'gun team,' so that's about as much advice as I can offer. Hope it was helpful.
